Street Closures and Parade Details


Notice is given that the following temporary road closures and altered traffic conditions will apply on Saturday, 30 May 2009.


Full Day Closures - 5.00am to 6.00pm

  • Campbell Street - Full Length
  • Civic Lane - Full Length
  • Cobb Lane - Full Length
  • Colo Lane - North of Kelso Lane
  • David Lane - Full Length
  • Flushcombe Rd - Main Street to Alpha Street
  • Main Street - Patrick St to Sunnyholt Rd / Newton Rd
  • Warrick Lane - Full Length including carpark
  • Westfield Place - Full Length

Additional Closures for Parade From 10.15 am to 12.30pm

Road closures will commence within the Blacktown CBD from around 10.15am. Roads will progressively be closed and then re-opened, at the conclusion of the parade. Roads affected include:


  • Alpha Street
    Flushcombe Road to roundabout at the Westpoint Access

  • First Avenue
    Altered traffic conditions will apply in First Avenue and its intersections with Boys Avenue, Prince Street and Sunnyholt Road as the parade participants move along First Avenue from the marshalling point in the RSL Car Park. Traffic controllers will be present at these intersections to control the parade and general traffic movements.

  • Flushcombe Road
    From Alpha Street to K-Mart Car Park Driveways

  • George Street
    Vehicles exiting George Street will be controlled by Council traffic controllers. Vehicles will be allowed to proceed when there are breaks in the Parade. Delays are expected.


  • Sunnyholt Road northbound
    First Avenue to Main Street.

Bus access to Blacktown Station will be prohibited during the parade. Buses crossing Sunnyholt Road at the T-way will be controlled by Police and Council traffic controllers. Buses will be allowed to proceed when there are breaks in the Parade.

Parade Details (Commencing at 11.00 am)

Vehicles in the parade will start from the Blacktown RSL Car Park at 10.30 am and travel along First Avenue to Sunnyholt Road at 10.45am. Then, along Sunnyholt Road (north bound lanes only) to Main Street. Parade participants on foot will join from the Warrick Lane Car Park.


The parade is scheduled to enter Main Street from Sunnyholt Road at 11.00am then travels via Main Street and Campbell Street, through the Civic Centre Car Park to Flushcombe Road, then north on Flushcombe Road, crossing Main Street to Warrick Lane and on to the Warrick Lane Car Park.

Detour Routes

5am - 10.15am and 12.30pm - 6pm

Please use Newton Road, Balmoral Street, Third Avenue and Sunnyholt Road to detour around the road closures.

During The Parade 10.15am - 12.30pm

As above; except that Sunnyholt Road northbound will be closed between Main Street and First Avenue. Drivers from the west or south of Blacktown CBD who intend to head north on Sunnyholt Road during this time should use Balmoral Street and Third Avenue to reach Sunnyholt Road. Drivers from the east in Blacktown Road should detour via Bungarribee Road (or alternatively via Newton Road) to Balmoral Street and take Third Avenue to Sunnyholt Road.

Due to road closures, some delays are expected on:

  • Sunnyholt Road, between Vardys Road and Newton Road (both directions),
  • Main Street/Blacktown Road, between Wall Park Avenue and Sunnyholt Road (westbound),
  • Newton Road, between Patrick Street and Sunnyholt Road (eastbound),
  • Third Avenue, between Richmond Road and Sunnyholt Road (both directions),

Council apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Bus Services

Services throughout the day remain as normal other than Busways Route 721 (hospital).

Busways service 721 (hospital) which normally travels via Campbell Street will detour via Newton Road and will pick up in Newton Rd if hailed.

Train Services

Train services will be operating as per CityRail timetable.


Taxi Services

Existing taxi ranks in Main Street near the Railway Station access will operate throughout the day as usual. Taxi access to and from the Blacktown Workers Club will be possible via Colo Lane, through the Workers Club Car Park and out Campbell Street (southbound).
